Concept to comic: Episode 8

It was harder than I thought it would be to draw a paper thin Dan. After several crappy attempts I remembered a particular Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin imagines himself being only two-dimensional:

The strip helped a lot and made it easier for me to make Dan appear flat. Thanks again Bill Watterson! Not only was he a master at writing funny, poignant, witty, emotional comics but he was an amazing cartoonist who drew appealing and hilarious pictures to compliment his words.

Apologies for this appearing so late – I’ve been flat out with my ‘real’ job. Still, that’s no excuse and I’m sorry to all those who entered who have been waiting. Commenter extraordinaire, Bearman, wins this one. He’s already won a contest on the Boys Will Be Boys site and now he’s going to be taking home an original Dan and Pete! Good work Bearman!

Here’s how the first panel from Episode 6 evolved. It starts from an almost incoherent messy sketch that I did at work (shhhh don’t tell my boss) that takes about 20 seconds. I had real fun drawing the final piece.
